Q: What is SysStatus
A: SysStatus is a "poor mans asset extraction" (hard and software) system.
Q: What functionality does SysStatus provide ?
A: SysStatus can collect data from individuel PCs (for example by being launched from a logonscript), Sysstatus can create and excel document containing an overview of the current data – this data can also be saved as a standard .html document. Furthermore an optionel VB component allows easy extraction of data for a single system.
Q: Why and by Who was SysStatus developed ?
A: SysStatus was written by me - Jakob Bindslet. Originally the work was meant to index data of users of a small private network, but it was later extended, and used in my function of Network Administrator for ISS Danmark (http://www.iss.dk).
Q: Excatly what information can SysStatus collect and display ?
A: Sysstatus the following data (and much more): Hostname, IP address, username, user priviledge level, screen resolution, free disk space, size of swap/pagefile, amount of RAM, CPU type and speed, complete domain logon history, OS, servicepack level, PC serial number, type/brand, VPN usage, and complete software inventory, including hotfixes applied.
Q: With all the information SysStatus provides, doesn’t it slow down the logon process ?
A: While SysStatus has been successfully tested on over 1000 different PC of various brands (HP, Compaq, Toshiba, Dell, IBM, Fujitsu-Siemens, and others), the maximum time to complete has always remained below 10 seconds. The time to execute on a 1GHz laptop, running windows 2000 is less than 2 seconds.
